March 15 – 17 Healing Retreat

Grief, loss and trauma can come in many forms at any time, nobody’s grief or grief journey is the same: It could be a sickness or age, the death of a friend or loved one, the loss of a relationship, moving from one end of the country to another, a change in career, the tears and pain of the world.This retreat focuses on the process of healing and spiritual growth that can emerge from grief.
Facilitators:
Scott Sullender, Ph.D. is a licened psychologist, a Pastoral counselor, has been for over forty years in psychotherapeutic praxis, an ordained minister for the Presbyterian congregation, who has written extensively on grief and healing. His newly released book is Trauma and Grief.
Sharon Thornton, Ph.D. is a Pastoral Theologian, Prof.emeritus at Andover Newton Seminary, an ordained minister for the UCC congregation who has worked many in Japanese American communities with the grief and trauma of post-WWII internment camp experiences and has published extensively on the personal and social reality of the intersection between suffering and pastoral training.
Kiona Medina, MA is a licensed Family therapist, is on the rebound team for Wellness in Action, through which she facilitates expressive arts self-care groups and is passionate about connecting multimodal art with spirituality in her therapeutic approach.
Julia D.E. Prinz, Ph.D. is a Scholar in Spirituality, a Roman Catholic sister in the Verbum Dei, and has worked and published from immigrant settings, cancer contexts and end-of life issues. Her work is often aesthetically transmitted by photography or poetry.
Sara Postlethwaite, M.Div is a campus Minister and retreat leader, a Roman Catholic sister in the Verbum Dei and has been behind the idea of this retreat as she has observed much need for trauma and grief work in the people she has contact with during her ministries.
